Operations:
Robert Hoyle, a Plasterer from Manchester, enlisted on 20 May 1939 later volunteering for the Commandos. Corporal Hoyle, No.12 Commando, embarked on HMS Campbeltown for the raid at St. Nazaire on 28 March 1942. Reported missing after the raid later confirmed a prisoner of war.

Escapes
Yes. The first in 1943 with an Australian named Bristol. We had passports and went by train from Oppeln to Tuttlingen by the Swiss Border. We reached Gotmadingen and were captured by Police. We were beaten. We were in bad health. 2 month jail. Second with Cpl Finch 4 Commando in Feb.44. Passports. Reached Stettin. Stayed 3 days. I was sick the whole time. 3rd with Cpl. Finch. Passports. Seen leaving camp by a German civilian. I struck him. 3 month jail. Weak health.
