Educated at the City of London School; left school and enlisted Royal Marines 6 November 1940 at Chatham number CH/X101828; selected for officer training and posted OCTU; passed training and commissioned; posted Machine Gun Company, 15th Support Bn., Royal Marines, based in England; 1941 posted 1 Machine Gun Company of the 101st Brigade RM; August 1943 posted Holding Operational Commando, Wrexham; January 1944 embarked from Liverpool as part of the 1st reinforcement draft for 3 Special Service Brigade in the Far East; posted 'S' Troop of No.44 Royal Marine Commando, Royal Marines; active service in India and Arakan, Burma, including the Battles for Pinner Hill and Hill 170; post war 1953-61 served as customs officer with HM Customs and Excise in Federation of Malaya and British Cameroon.
