Served in No.12 Commando and later in the far East with No.1 Commando 5 Troop.
Post war Laurence Whittingham from Wallasey, Cheshire, died of illness at Batu Gaja Hospital, Perak, Malaya, whilst serving as a Police Lieutenant in the Federation of Malaya Police.

He had been ill with Scrub fever after a long spell on Jungle Patrol in the Kinat Hills, Ipoh.
