John Lowman was conscripted on 7 September 1943 aged 18 joining the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. He later volunteered for the Commandos and after passing his commando course at Achnacarry was posted to the Holding Operational Commando before embarking for active service in the Far East. Private John Lowman joined No.1 Commando 4 Troop in 1945 as part of the replacements for losses incurred during the Battle for Hill 170 in Burma. He also served in 1/5 Commando after the merger. Post war member of the Commando Association.
