Acting Captain John Parsons, 41RM Commando, was awarded the Military Cross in recognition of gallant and distinguished services during operations at Salerno, Italy, on the 17th September 1943 [1].
Recommendation
"On the morning of 17 Sep. 43 after a night attack he was in position on a ridge held by the enemy with only 18 men left out of his troop. Due to his inspiration and personal example this small party held out for three hours against continuous counter attacks in which many casualties were inflicted on the enemy."[2].
