Lance Corporal John Binnie was wounded 5 October 1943 during operations at Termoli, Italy (Operation Devon). Wounded again June 1944 at Normandy, France, rank Lance Corporal. He had volunteered for the Commandos from the Police.
John Binnie, warrant number 127353 joined the Metropolitan Police on 21 Nov 1938, and left on 1 Aug 1945. Last posted to M Division as a PC. In 1939 he was a Police Constable residing at Blackheath Police Section House, Catherine Grove, Greenwich.
Post war member of the Commando Association from Tunbridge, Kent. They record his military rank as Corporal.
