In 1939 Joseph Charles Burnham was a Metropolitan Police War Reserve Constable on 'S' Division, collar number 256 (warrant number 21859) and Golf Professional. He volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 joining the 2nd Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre) at Achnacarry. Service in No.1 Commando included North Africa and 6 troop during operations in Burma. He also served in Kong Kong likely with No.1/5 Commando before being discharged on 15 February 1947. Post war Club Professional at Burnham Beeches Golf Club from 1949 to 1977. Member of the Commando Association.
