John Lyons enlisted into the 2nd Battalion Black Watch on 9 October 1939, civil occupation Fitter and Turner. He later volunteered for the Commandos. Lance Corporal Lyons, No.50 Middle East Commando, was reported missing during operations on the occupied Greek island of Kastellorizo, later found to be a prisoner of war having been captured on 28 February 1941.
