Lt Ian Campbell Clark RM
Lieutenant Ian Clark died during a cross border operation to Sajingan Besar*, Indonesia.
He received a posthumous Mention in Despatches for distinguished service in support of operations and had previously served in Aden with 45 Commando RM.
The operation, codenamed Lively Cricket, was against Indonesian forces who had been mortaring the 42 Commando base at Kampung Biawak, in Sarawak, Malaysia.

* Notes: This particular cross border operation 'Lively Cricket' was to Sajingan Besar in Indonesia (seen elsewhere as Sedjingan and Sebedang. Cross border operations/raids were all part of Operation Claret.

“It was my privilege to serve under this cracking Officer in 45 Commando RM. He inspired total confidence, screamed competence, and had that air about him. It was a pleasure to be with him. I had the further privilege of serving with him in ‘X’ Troop, the Commando Training Wing at CTCRM taking Recruits through for their Green Beret. I did not know he was Mentioned in Despatches but one round can end a promising career! I think he was destined for High Office, what a loss! Salute! “
