Lieutenant Ian Clark died during a cross border operation to Sajingan Besar*, Indonesia.
He received a posthumous Mention in Despatches for distinguished service in support of operations and had previously served in Aden with 45 Commando RM.
The operation, codenamed Lively Cricket, was against Indonesian forces who had been mortaring the 42 Commando base at Kampung Biawak, in Sarawak, Malaysia.

* Notes: This particular cross border operation 'Lively Cricket' was to Sajingan Besar in Indonesia (seen elsewhere as Sedjingan and Sebedang. Cross border operations/raids were all part of Operation Claret.
