John Hunter No.2 Commando
Lance Corporal John Hunter, 5 troop, was killed in action during operations at Dragone Hill, Salerno, and was originally buried by the 6th Yorks and Lancs. However his grave was never again found.
John Edmund Hunter was an old boy of Aireborough Grammar School, and later a clerical officer with the Inland Revenue in London. His wife was a Corporal in the WAAFs and their home was 14 The Crescent, Hall Lane, Horsforth, near Leeds. He had been with No.2 Commando since at least 1942. Whilst No.2 Commando were based in Ayr he was a Lance Corporal in 5 Troop 'B' Section, No.3 Sub-Section, and billeted at 226 High Street, Ayr.
