Private Harold Kendray was wounded during operations at Normandy, France. Harold was a Police Officer who volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 as part of the Police Intakes to the Commando Depot ( Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. Post war member of the Commando Association from Thornaby Teesside. They list his rank as Lance Sergeant. In 1939 he was 18 and an apprentice printer living with his family in Thornaby. His Father was a retired Police Inspector.

His brother 754420 Sergeant Leslie Kendray, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died on 4 October 1940, aged 20. Remembered with honour at Thornaby-On-Tees Cemetery [Source: CWGC].
