Harold Kendray was a Middlesborough Police Officer who volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 joining the 2nd Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. After successfully completing his commando training he was attached to No.3 Commando. Private Harold Kendray was serving in No.3 Commando HQ in November 1943 and was later wounded during operations at Normandy, France. Post war member of the Commando Association from Thornaby Teesside. In 1939 he was 18 and an apprentice printer living with his family in Thornaby. His Father was a retired Police Inspector.

His brother 754420 Sergeant Leslie Kendray, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died on 4 October 1940, aged 20. Remembered with honour at Thornaby-On-Tees Cemetery [Source: CWGC].
