Harold Lilley from Hull, East Yorkshire, enlisted 16 October 1939, civil occupation - Fish Worker. Volunteered for the Commandos. Attached No.7 Commando 24 August 1940. Attached 3 Special Service Battalion (commando restructuring) 11 November 1940 until 31 January 1941 when reverted to No.7 Commando (commando restructuring). Embarked for the Middle East as 'A' Battalion, Layforce, January 1941. Reported missing 2 June 1941 during operations at Crete, later found to be a prisoner of war having been captured the previous day.
