Lance Sergeant Frederick Simmonds of 27 Sherborne Street Gloucester, died in Belgium. 
He was reported missing on 2 June 1941 during operations in Crete and later found to be a prisoner of war at Stalag 383 in Germany. He was serving in 'D' Bn., Layforce at the time. In 1945 he was reported as no longer a prisoner and then reported as died 21 May 1945. He is buried in Brussels Town Cemetery.

Notes
The CWGC show no Commando service with his unit as 1st Bn. South Staffs. However the Westminster Abbey Commando ROH list his unit, as do the Casualty Lists at the time of his capture, as 'D' Bn., Layforce which was formed from 50 and 52 ME Commando for Crete.
