Donald Arthur Carter was a Metropolitan Police Officer who volunteered for the Commandos. He joined the Police on 26 September 1938 (warrant No. 127243). In 1939 Police Constable Carter resided at the Police Section House, King David Lane, London E1. After volunteering in 1942 he joined the 1st Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre) at Achnacarry. On completion of his commando training he was attached to No.3 Commando. Private Donald Carter was wounded 5 October 1943 during commando operations at Termoli, Italy (Operation Devon). Discharged from military service 25 September 1945 and re-joined the Metropolitan Police. Appointed Mounted Branch Officer 21 April 1947. Retired from the Police 6 October 1968.
