1940/41 Commanding Officer of the Middle East Commando Depot at Geneifa beside the Great Bitter Lake.
Awarded the Military Cross in World War 1 whilst a Second Lieutenant Lancers (Special Reserve) for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while in charge of a patrol. He carried out a daily reconnaissance under heavy fire, and was the means of obtaining most valuable information.
