Cyril Douglas Chew 3 Commando
Cyril Douglas Chew, a Machinist from Windsor aged 18, was attested into the Coldstream Guards on 3 September 1942. He later volunteered for the Commandos and was attached to No.3 Commando 5 Troop. Guardsman Chew was seriously wounded on 7 June 1944 during operations at Normandy. Initially taken prisoner of war but later released from enemy hands because of his injuries. Multiple wounds and fractures to both legs and head caused by the explosion of a mine. Evacuated to the UK. Medically discharged from military service 4 May 1945.
