Lance Corporal Clive Severn was reported missing at sea whilst on board the submarine H.M.S. Triumph later presumed killed in action. Mentioned in Despatches (posthumous) in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in the Middle East. Son of Herbert and Gertrude Eva Severn, of Daybrook, Nottinghamshire.
Extract from the Nottingham Evening Post
10 August 1942
"Cpl. Clive Severn of the submarine Triumph lost at sea, eldest son of Mr and Mr H. Severn, of 54 Rosecroft Drive, Edwards Lane, Daybrook, is believed killed in action. He was at school at Claremont and worked on the staff of Messrs Francis T Wright Ltd., Bagthorpe. He played in the Daybrook United Championship team in 1939."
  • The submarine HMS Triumph was lost somewhere in the Aegean Sea in January 1942. The crew, of which there were no survivors, included two Commandos serving with 1 Special Boat Section, Corporals Clive Severn and Alfred Child.
