Private Derek Altass was reported as missing on 26 February 1943 during operations in North Africa (Battle of Steamroller Farm near El Aroussa, Tunisa), later found to be a prisoner of war. 
Post war member of the Commando Association with whom they lost contact.

Notes
  • No details can be found of a German POW Camp called 101 shown on WO392/1 and WO392/11 above at the time of his captivity. However there was a 327 Reserve Lazaret 101 (served Stalag 3-B) at Furstenberg Brandenburg, Prussia 52-14. This was a Hospital. Stalag 3B was at Furstenburg. Treat as a possible but not confirmed.
