William James Hart, an Insurance Broker with Lloyds, London, joined the Royal Marines on 10 September 1941. Posted to 46RM Commando on its formation in August 1943. Lieutenant Hart, 'B' Troop, was wounded and a prisoner of war 11/12 June 1944 during operations at Rots and Le Hamel, Normandy. He was treated for his wounds in hospital until 20 August 1944 before being moved to a prisoner of war camp.
