Leslie James Latham was a Police Constable who volunteered for the Commandos in 1942. He enlisted into the General Service Corps on 23 July 1942 and was taken on strength of the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry, joining the 2nd Police Intake. In September 1942 he was transferred adminstratively to the North Staffordshire Regiment and attached to No.4 Commando.
Private Latham served in 'A' Troop and the Intelligence Section of No.4 Commando. He was wounded 8 June 1944 during operations in North West Europe and treated at 16 Casualty Clearing Station before being evacuated to hospital in the the UK.
12 August 1944 posted Holding Operational Commando. Re-joined No.4 Commando and embarked UK for Belgium 5 October 1944. He was a casualty again on 26 February 1945 transferred initially to 163 Field Ambulance and then 111 General Hospital. Re-joined No.4 Commando 6 March 1945. Posted Holding Operational Commando 25 June 1945. Class 'B' Release from military service 16 September 1945
