Daniel Heesom, a Plasterer from the Isle of Man, enlisted into the Armed Forces 3 April 1940 and later volunteered for the commandos. Lance Corporal Heesom, No.7 Commando attached to Layforce, was reported missing, later confirmed a prisoner of war, 20 April 1941 during an operation at Bardia, Cyrenaica, Libya.
