In 1939 Thomas Grealey was a City of London Police Constable, married, and residing at Ferndale Court, Lambeth. He volunteered for the Commandos and on 23 July 1942 was enlisted into the General Service Corps and posted to the 2nd Police Intake at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. 
14.09.1942 transferred to East Lancashire Regiment.
24.09.1942 posted No.3 Commando.
26.02.1943 embarked UK for Gibraltar.
08.03.1943 disembarked Gibraltar.
14.07.1943 wounded during operations in Sicily at Agnone and Malati Bridge (3 Commando Bridge). 
12.10.1943 discharged hospital and taken on strength No.3 Commando.
15.02.1944 appointed Acting Lance Corporal.
09.05.1944 struck off strength No.3 Commando to 44 RHU.
25.05.1944 medically examined and placed Army Medical Category A2.
31.05.1944 posted to Holding Operational Commando.
17.01.1945 temporarily attached 3 Company, Intelligence Corps Depot.
21.03.1945 temporarily attached School of Military Intelligence, Matlock.
04.04.1945 compulsory transfer to the Intelligence Corps.
22.06.1945 promoted Lance Sergeant.
28.09.1945 medically examined and placed Army Medical Category A1.
04.10.1945 released to reserve List.
