Lance Sergeant Lloyd Coleman was Mentioned in Despaches for gallant and distinguished service in the Mediterranean theatre. He served in 5 troop, ('B' Section, No.4 Sub Section) and, after a course on the 3" Mortar, the Heavy Weapons Troop. Released from military service 1 October 1945.
Lloyd Coleman was a Newport Borough Police Officer who volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 and was posted to the 2nd Police Intake that commenced 23 July 1942 at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. Course concluded 24 September 1942. Posted No.2 Commando and whilst based in Ayr prior to deployment overseas was billeted at 5 Oswald Place, Ayr. He re-joined the Newport Borough Police after the war and was a member of the Commando Association.
