Donald Hugh Martin, a Police Officer from Norwich, volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 joining the 2nd Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), at Achnacarry. After completing the commando course he was attached to No.4 Commando. Sergeant Donald Martin, 1 Troop (formerly C Troop), received a Mention in Despatches in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in North West Europe, specifically for his part during operations on the island of Schouwen, Holland.
- 06.06.1944 wounded Ouistreham, Normandy*
- 01.11.1944 wounded Holland (remaining on duty).
- 22.09.1945 released from military service and re-joined Norwich City Police. Retired in 1968 final rank Police Sergeant. He spent many of those years as a frogman
