Lance Sergeant Alexander McClair, 2 Troop No.2 Commando, was one of the commando contingent who embarked on Motor Launch 156 for Operation Chariot, the raid at St. Nazaire 28 March 1942. He was evacuated back to the UK after the raid [1][2].
- He then joined the SBS and was posted to OCTU [3].
- 7 November 1942 commissioned Second Lieutenant and attached to 2 SBS, then later posted as Captain in 'Z' SBS [3][4][5].
- 9 November 1944 (Lieutenant) (Temporary Captain) Mentioned in Despatches in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in the Field [5].
