Lieutenant Donald Murray served in 41RM Commando and the RM Holding Commando during WW2. 20 October 1944 North West Europe wounded (phosphorous burns face, throat, and hands). In 1946 he joined the Foreign Office.

  • 1973 Donald Murray, lately Counsellor, H.M. Embassy, Tehran, appointed C.M.G.
  • 1974 -1976 Ambassador to Libya.
  • 1977- 1980 Assistant Under-Secretary of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
  • 1980 - 1984 Ambassador to Sweden.
  • 1983 appointed K.C.V.O.
  • 1984 Retired from Foreign Service.
