Captain Hutchison Burt, 'E' Troop, was awarded the Military Cross in recognition of gallant and distinguished service during operations in Normandy [1][1a].
Recommendation
6 June 1944. Captain Burt displayed outstanding leadership and courage in assaulting the Battery at Ouistreham and pressing home the assault in the face of very heavy defensive fire. Capt Burt's Troop sustained heavy casualties in this attack, but he rallied them and carried them through. In subsequent operations, Capt Burt has shown great skill and resource [1a].
