Lieutenant Richard Shedden, No.5 Commando, was awarded the Military Cross in recognition of gallant and distinguished service during operations in Madagascar. He was in charge of a Landing Craft Assault (LCA). When all LCA came under fire he leapt off his craft and whilst making fast his LCA was shot in the foot. He collected his men and continued his assault on his objective. Though in great pain he led his men for two hours before he was made to receive medical aid. His spirit was a wonderful inspiration to his men.
Later served in No.10 (Inter Allied) Commando. Discharged from service 28 February 1946. Resided Highcliffe on Sea, Hampshire, in 1949.
