Leading Seaman Terence Patrick Palmer, 'N' Beach Commando, died of wounds at 2 Casualty Clearing Station, Anzio. He had participated in the assault on Elba. Mentioned in Despatches (posthumous) for distinguished service in operations carried out in the face of determined opposition from the enemy which led to the capture of the island of Elba. Son of Mary Palmer, of North Shields, Northumberland; husband of Valerie Joan Palmer, of Kalk Bay, Cape Province, South Africa. [1][2][3][4].

At the time of his death RN Commandos were involved in the operation to liberate the enemy held island of Elba, codenamed Operation Brassard. His service record shows death occurred "during assault on Elba on 17.6.44."

The remarks column on his service record from 10 November 1942 onwards only shows a series of queries being sent as to his posting/whereabouts finally mentioning HMS Copra (Combined Operations Pay and Records Administration) [5].
