Fusilier Justin Szarkow, 2 troop, was wounded 15 April 1945 in Italy (Lake Comacchio).
In 1956 he changed the family name of Szarkow to Gibbs to honour his step father.
First born of a Polish immigrant family he was born and raised in Manchester. His daughter adds "He was fiercely patriotic to his death and was proud to have been a Commando".

53491 Private S. Szarkow, 1st/8th Bn. Middlesex Regiment died on the 24th August 1918 and is remembered with honour at Douchy-Les-Ayette British Cemetery. ( Source: CWGC.)
