Major Christopher Dudley Miller was the second in command of 51 Middle East Commando on its formation 15 October 1940. He took command as Acting Lieutenant Colonel on 23 March 1941 when Lieutenant Colonel Cator MC, their Commanding Officer, was wounded. In January 1942, after a reorganisation of commando units in the region, 51 Middle East Commando was absorbed with the remnants of Layforce into a new Middle East Commando, with Major Miller as Second in Command. Further reorganisation led to the formation of the 1st Special Service Regiment which he joined July 1942.
