Albert James Blakeley after training was appointed on 25 March 1939 as a Police Constable in the West Sussex Constabulary and posted to Horsham, Sussex. On 25 March 1941 he was transferred to Ferring. Resigned from the Police 17 July 1942. Albert married Gwyneth Daisy Williams from Horsham on 5 September 1942.
Enlisted October 1942 after volunteering for the Commandos and trained at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. On the completion of his commando training Gunner Blakeley was posted to No.5 Commando and in 1943 deployed with them for active service in the Far East, specifically India, Burma, and Hong Kong. Post war member of the Commando Association.
