Metropolitan Police Constable Schermuly, warrant no.126423, was awarded the George Medal for gallantry in rescuing five women from a bombed and burning building in danger of collapse. Constable Schermuly G.M. volunteered for the commandos in 1942.
12.10.1942 enlisted General Service Corps. Posted to the 3rd Police Intake, Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry.
