1st Police Intake to the Commando Depot 1942. Served in No.4 Commando and 41RM Commando. Posted to O.C.T.U. Commissioned Second Lieutenant 1st April 1944. In June 1976 he was appointed O.B.E. (Civil Division) for services as a Member of the Home Office Standing Committee on Crime Prevention. Member of the Commando Association.
*Evan Davies was born on 15 June 1917. He travelled in Germany and learnt German. On his return, he joined the Metropolitan Police, initially working as a constable in the East End of London. He worked for Special Branch, 1938-41, and then became a commando during the war. After the war, he returned to Special Branch and helped to form an anti-terrorist unit. He was involved in protecting the Prime Minister, Clement Attlee, and the Foreign Secretary, Ernest Bevin, 1945-8, and was one of the detectives assigned to protect Winston Churchill, 1948-50. He was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Police in Malaya [later part of Malaysia], 1950-2 *.
**Joined the Metropolitan Police 7 March 1938, warrant number 126726. 24 March 1942 appointed Detective Constable serving in the Special Branch. 19 June 1942 enlisted Armed Forces. Post war rejoined the police. Resigned 15 October 1950 in the rank of Detective Sergeant. His death is reported in London Police Pensioner Issue 145 (30/06/2012) **.
