Brian Parker Smith, a Customs Clerk from The Wirral, Cheshire, enlisted 20 June 1940 later volunteering for the commandos and attached to No.1 Commando. He was reported missing during operations at Sedjenane Valley, Tunisia, later confirmed prisoner of war 28 January 1943. On 20 April 1945 at Grimma, Germany, he and a group of other prisoners of war managed to escape their guards and make their way to the American lines. Post war served in the Territorial Army (Cheshire Regiment) attaining rank of Sergeant.
