Basil Walter Totman, a Labourer from Suffolk, enlisted into the Armed Forces 15 March 1940 later volunteering for the commandos. Private Totman, No.7 Commando attached to Layforce, was reported missing later confirmed prisoner of war 20 April 1941 during an operation at Bardia, Cyrenaica, Libya. Released 8 September 1943 by Italians after the Armistice. Recaptured 11 November 1943 by German forces.
