Corporal Davidson was captured 1 June 1941 during operations on Crete. He escaped and left the island by rowing boat with others but was captured by the Italians at Gambut, Libya.
He later attempted to escape from Camp 66 by tunnelling with others but they were discovered after four months work before completion.
On 14 September 1943 he escaped with others from a railway truck at Piacenza, Italy, during transportation to Germany but was recaptured 2 months later at Picinisco near Isernia.
His final escape again with others was from a Working Camp in Germany on 24 July 1944 by cutting a hole in wall of a barrack room under the floor. Recaptured 2 days later.
