Daniel Green from Suffolk enlisted into the Armed Forces in August 1939. Lance Corporal Green, 52 Middle East Commando, was reported missing 2 June 1941 having been captured and becoming a prisoner of war the previous day during operations in Crete. His commando formed part of 'D' Bn., Layforce for this operation. Mentioned in Despatches in recocognition of gallant and distinguished service in the Field.
Escapes
Escaped August 1941 Salonica, recaptured October 1941 off Skyros. 
Unsuccessful attempt from a train en route to Germany.
Secured passage on a Swedish Collier from Oppeln to Wismar until recaptured by Gestapo.
Three further attemps to escape from Lamsdorf.
