Sergeant William White was awarded the Military Medal [1] in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the combined attack on Dieppe. At that time he was a Lance Corporal in a No 3 Commando 3" mortar detachment and was wounded during the engagement [2]. He died in July 1956 after a long illness [3].
