Fusilier William Irving, HQ Troop, from London, was awarded the Military Medal in recognition of gallant and distinguished service at Kangaw, Burma on the 23rd January 1945.
Recommendation
At Kangaw Hill 170 (Map ref. 515414, sheet Myebon1/25000) on 23 Jan 45, Fus. Irving was in charge of the troop wireless set. At midnight he had multiple greande wounds of the back inflicted by an enemy greande. Refusing treatment and evacuation he maintained communications all night. His set was hit three times. His courage and devotion to duty enabled vital messages to be passed throughout the action.
