William Forbes, a Joiner from Edinburgh, enlisted into the Royal Marines 23 January 1941.
08.06.1944 Prisoner of war Port en Bessin, Normandy.
01.09.1944 - 21.09.1944 Marlag und Milad Nord (T).
22.09.1944 - 01.04.1945 Arbeits Kommando, Thale, Harz. Escaped 1 April to the woods by cutting camp wires. Given food by German women. Later made his way to American lines with about 10 others including David Simpson, Raymond Lowe, Joseph Isherwood.
Post war member of the Commando Association residing Dunnally, Tasmania.
