FINNEY, William

Trooper later Lance Corporal
4 Commando
Royal Armoured Corps
Honours & Awards:
Trooper William Finney was awarded the Military Medal in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the combined attack on Dieppe.
"Operation Jubilee, Dieppe Area 19th August 1942.
Trooper Finney showed great courage and a high sense of duty by climbing a telegraph pole and, under heavy fire in broad daylight, cutting lateral communications which were of extreme importance to the enemy. He was fully exposed, but worked coolly with wire-cutters and, although the pole to which he was clinging was hit several times, Finney bore a charmed life and got down again uninjured. Recommended by Lt. Col. Lord Lovat."
