Lance Sergeant William Gunningham was killed in action during operations at Termoli, Italy. Previously wounded 19 August 1942 at Dieppe, France, whilst a  Corporal in No.3 Commando. Son of William and Isabelle Gunningham, of Bristol; husband of Betty Louise Gunningham, of Henleaze, Bristol [1][a][1b]

Prior to military service William John Gunningham from Bristol was employed from the 12th August 1934 with the Great Western Railway. In 1939 his occupation was Railway Mileage Goods Porter [4].
