Thomas William Winter MM
Company Sergeant Major Thomas William Winter was reported missing 12 September 1942 later confirmed as a prisoner of war. He was taking part in Operation Aquatint, a raid by 62 Commando, known as the Small Scale Raiding Force, at Saint Honorine des Pertes, France, to capture German prisoners for intelligence gathering.
He had previously taken part in Operations Postmaster and Dryad subsequently awarded the Military Medal for gallant and distinguished service in the Field. In 1940 he served in No.2 (Para) Commando (later redesignated as 11 SAS Battalion), and appears to have been attached to the Special Operations Exective (SOE) at some stage. Post war appointed M.B.E. (Civil Division). Member of the Commando Association residing Isle of Wight.
