Thomas Ivor Williams MM, SBS
Sergeant Thomas Ivor Williams, 'B' Group 2 Special Boat Section, was awarded the Military Medal for gallant and distinguished service in Burma between August and November 1944 [1][1a].
Recommendation
"On the night 16/17 November 1944, Sgt Williams was the Number 2 of the leading foldboat which attacked an enemy motor boat on the Chindwin. Throughout the action he fired his T.S.M.G. with such accuracy that the enemy was forced to turn away as planned, towards the L.M.G. During the boarding, this NCO helped to bring his foldboat alongside with precision and efficiency, and on the return journey kept the enemy well covered.
On the night of 29/30 Nov. 1944, Sgt Williams was in charge of a bren gun in the bows of the assault boat ordered to attack the enemy off Kalewa. Throughout the attack Sgt Williams showed great coolness together with a high degree of accuracy, and used his initiative in such a way as to keep his gun firing continually until out of range.
At all times throughout the period of operations this NCO worked extremely diligently and hard and showed marked ability and leadership. His continued cheerfulness, coupled with a willingness, was at all times a source of encouragement to all ranks" [1a].
