Private Thomas Taylor was reported missing 19 August 1942 during operations at Dieppe, France, later confirmed prisoner of war. During captivity he made three attempts to escape, the first two of which were unsuccessful being captured hours later. Shortly after on 5 April 1945 he was transferred from Stalag 344 to Stalag IIID. On 13 April 1945 he again escaped and days later met up with troops from the American 7th Army.
In 1981 Tommy was admitted to the Royal Hospital Chelsea and was believed to be their first Commando Chelsea Pensioner. However he re-married shortly after this and moved out of the RHC. Member of the Commando Association.
