Sergeant Thomas Metcalfe received a Mention in Dispatches in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Norway.
Recommendation 
Operation Cartoon
Sergeant Metcalfe was with a detachment of the Special Service Brigade which landed at Sagvaag, Norway, on the night of the 23/24th January 1943. This NCO led a party of eleven men which was responsible for the complete destruction of the Transformer at the Pyrite mine. Sgt. Metcalfe led his party with determination and performed his task with great thoroughness. His judgement was quick and accurate, and his leadership instilled enthusiasm into all detailed for this task.
