Thomas Jenkins, a Miner from the Rhondda, South Wales, enlisted into the Armed Forces on 8 August 1938 and was posted to the 1st Battalion of the Welch Regiment. He later volunteered for the commandos in the Middle East and joined 52 Middle East Commando. Private Jenkins was reported missing 2 June 1941 during operations in Crete, later found to be a prisoner of war having been captured the previous day. He remained in captivity until liberated. On return to the UK in 1945 he resided at Treherbert, Rhondda, South Wales.
