Guardsman Stephen Patterson was attested into the Coldstream Guards on 14 August 1942. He was an assistant plasterer aged 18. On 7 June 1944 he was serving in 5 Troop when reported missing during operations at Normandy, France, later found to be a prisoner of war. On Friday 29th August 1947 at St Wilfrid's Church, Blyth, Northumberland, he married Fraulein Ursula Michels, a German lady who had befriended him whilst in captivity. Member of the Commando Association residing in West Germany.
