Private Robert Martin was accidentally shot and killed returning from the British Expedition to Norway (Scissors Force). Buried at sea. Son of Robert and Margaret Martin, of Liverpool.
At 0445hrs a loaded rifle with safety catch off, fell and discharged a round in the confined space where he was berthed on board HMS Vindictive when returning from Operation Scissors Force. He was batman to Lieut. Lawrence Taylor. Pte McGuire was wounded.
